Partial Discharge (PD) : A Localized Electrical Discharge in an Insulation System that does not completely bridge the Electrodes.
 
 
Why continuous on-line PD monitoring?

• Some insulation deficiencies may perform differently at test voltage (10kV) and real operating voltage
• Many defects manifest themselves quickly
• Can easily miss developing defects with periodic testing
