Companies Need To Manage Power Consumption Efficiently

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Companies need to reassess their power consumption and brace themselves against the impact of the tariff hike announced yesterday, says Power Quality Engineering Sdn Bhd (PQE).
"It is now more imperative than ever for industries that use a lot of electricity to efficiently manage their power consumption instead of expecting the tariff to stagnate. Malaysia's tariff structure is presently one of the lowest in the world," said PQE managing director Jonn Pua.
"Depending on key parameters, companies that practise energy management have recorded savings of up to 40 percent," he said in a statement Thursday.
According to Pua, energy management should be made a priority by companies regardless of increase in tariff.
"Continuous monitoring and management of power usage is a prudent practice for companies seeking to achieve operational excellence," he said.
PQE is one of the Tenaga Nasional Bhd accredited power quality solutions providers which conduct energy audits to determine energy usage, power quality consultancy and energy management solutions.
Pua said businesses should conduct regular energy audits on their power usage to identify areas where power incompatibility between equipment, tools and source occur.
"With this information, the company can arrest the problem as well as adopt the right solution to not only save on electricity bill but also ensure business process continuity," he said.
Pua said training on energy efficiency and power quality management is among the approaches that PQE has taken in educating energy managers.
The company, he added, is spearheading a programme to educate energy users on energy consumption, compatibility, revenue leakages and business risks in relation to power consumption.
