KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Power Quality Engineering Sdn Bhd (PQE) will launch the Partial Discharge Monitor (PDM 3) and the PQEqualizer at the Tenaga 2006 Expo & Forum to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from June 27-30.
PQE is one of the few Tenaga Nasional accredited power quality solutions provider. Their main activities are conducting energy audits to determine energy usage, power quality consultancy and energy management solutions.
Its managing director Jonn Pua said launching these machines in Malaysia was a major coup, as they have been used extensively in developed countries.
"We see great potential for these machines in Malaysia as companies are taking steps to manage their energy. With major changes occurring in the energy industry, companies are more motivated to focus on energy efficiency and power quality management," he said in a statement.
This is the first time the PDM 3, considered one of the most successful partial discharge monitors, is being made available in Malaysia. It was shipped in from the United Kingdom and is designed and manufactured by EA Technology Ltd, UK.
It is also able to detect partial discharges in high voltage metal-clad switchgear and cable termination.
Partial discharges are tiny electrical sparks that occur inside the insulation of high voltage equipment and are the early signs of insulation failure. Occurrences of partial discharge may lead to power supply interruption and voltage dip problem.
Phua said car manufacturers, hospitals and semiconductor plants are most likely to benefit from the PQEqualizer whereas companies that often use high voltage equipment such as electrical utility companies, oil and gas companies, and steel mills will benefit from PDM 3.
Both these machines help companies perform preventive and predictive maintenance as they assist in preventing supply interruption and maintaining power quality which will affect performance equally.
Their solutions have assisted clients in reducing from five percent to 40 percent of their power usage.
